ICF Coach
I am a certified International Coaching Federation coach. I studied with Kingstown College, Dublin. I also completed the training with Co-Active Coaching in Dubai. My topics are what is on this website: Leadership & Management, Navigating Difficult Conversations, Communication for Results. I've also helped people succeed in interviews.
Coaching is very well described by the ICF Core Competencies. Coaches are obliged to work within the ICF Code of Ethics and Core Values of integrity, respect of clients and sponsors, confidentiality, professionalism. The following paragraph is my summary of the ICF Competencies and my guide to what my role is when I coach.
The coaching mindset is open, flexible, curious and client-centred. It recognises that clients are responsible for their own choices. The coach’s job is to create an environment that allows the client to share freely and maintain mutual respect and trust. That is done by being present, listening deeply and actively to understand the client context. The coach evokes awareness in the client through powerful questions which focus on areas like ways of thinking, values, needs, wants and beliefs. The client is invited to generate ideas about how to move forward and the coach can, occasionally, share observations, insights without attachment. The aim is to cultivate learning and growth in the client: new awareness, insight, goals, actions and accountability measures. Coaches also celebrate client progress and successes!
Coaching Feedback
I had the pleasure of learning with Laurence, first as leadership trainer and later as my coach. I greatly appreciated his pragmatic approach to both leadership and life in general. He knows how to ask the right questions, the ones that make you face reality, focus on solutions, and ultimately discover new opportunities for growth. As both a trainer and a coach, I would definitely recommend Laurence. I have no doubt he has made me a better leader.
Tiago Sousa. Head of HR. EU Agency.
I really enjoyed my sessions with Laurence. He was so professional, and I was able to talk to him easily. He was objective and patient and he kept me on track. It was great to have someone look at me from the outside as I could not be objective with myself. I went into these coaching sessions feeling very overwhelmed, but Laurence quite quickly got to the root of the problem, and I was able to set and meet some realistic goals.

I'm an ICF-Coach who is also influenced by: Co-Active coaching, my trainings - given and received - on Leadership & Management, Non-Violent Communication, Emotional Intelligence, NLP, DiSC, Time Management, Assertiveness, Negotiation, Influence, Critical Thinking and many others. These trainings give me a background with which to listen to clients' situations and offer occasional insights without attachment. I'm also very aware that real learning comes from within the client, and progress is made by actions taken with new awareness by the client.
For me, coaching and training complement each other very well: Training suggests tools and gives a space to practice. Coaching, though, allows a deeper, more personalised exploration of a situation. The client has time to explore and commit to action.
I also deliver group coachings on topics around Leadership and Navigating Difficult Conversations.
